Leadership Throughout History

Teachers || Students

I am South African born with Spanish mom and Brazilian dad.  My multicultural background provides me with an interest in different cultures around the world along with history, politics and the environment.  I love reading and I enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle and being in nature.  I am a new father with 2 young boys and am enjoying fatherhood.  I have been in the Leadership Program for 9 years and am currently teaching Social Studies, Physical Education, Sustainability and Leadership. My favorite memory I've had with the program is being able to work with the students.

Life Motto: Life is a journey, not a destination.

I'm a person who enjoys being active and involved in the community and social justice. I also love to go on adventures and explore new things. I have been in the Leadership Program since 2012 and am currently teaching Social Studies 8L, 10L, 11L, mainstream Social Studies and Law 12. My favorite memories in the program are the camps, going to the Aboriginal Friendship Centre for She Speaks: Indigenous Women Forum Against Tar Sands, and meeting one of the first environmental lawyers in Canada who worked to prevent Mackenzie Valley pipeline in 1972.

I grew up in a small town of 3000 called Fruitvale.  Fruitvale is in the West Kootenays of BC and offered all kinds of out the back door wilderness experiences.  As kids we spent many hours hours swimming, tubing and in the winter, ice skating on creeks and rivers.  I was constantly riding bikes, motorbikes, picking huckleberries, building forts, making projects, and delivering the local newspaper.  I still like to stay active and outdoors.  For fun, I mountain bike, kiteboard, and play hockey.  Interests, priorities, and conversational topics change when you have young children in your life.  I have two.

I have been in the Leadership Program for two years and am currently teaching junior P.E. My favorite memories of the program all have to do with the combination of the students' ability to play and experience outdoor activities and the ability and opportunity to lead and impact the community.

Life Motto: Be kind.

Outside of teaching, I’m a wife and a mom first, and then I have a few hobbies. I knit, and I make soaps and other products. I love the environmental stewardship philosophy of the leadership program, and am excited to journey with my students as they learn more about their place in the world.

I have been in the Leadership Program for 1 year and am currently teaching Science 8 and Ecology 9.

Life Motto: From "Meet the Robinsons": Keep moving forward. In other words, learn from past mistakes, grow in the present, and make your future better.
